We will be meeting at Kissel Hill Elementary School by 9am to make sure that all the groups/dens have enough people and that all the routes are covered. We need lots of help this weekend! Our job is to collect and transport donations to Kissel Hill Elementary. Then we sort, box, and transport the food to the Warwick Community Chest. We team up with Troop 142 (Middle/High School Scouts) to get this done. Even if you can only help out for a part of the morning, please come! Every little bit helps! My brother is getting married this weekend, so I won’t be there. Please see your den leader or Melonni when you arrive even if you already know which route you are doing. This way we know who needs more people and who doesn’t. Den leaders/Group Leaders - we need a count of how many people are helping with Scouting for Food this weekend for Council. Please get a count to Melonni on Saturday morning.
If you are fortunate to be able to donate items yourself, please remember to put your items out on your front stoop or bring it with you. If you lost your bag, just use another grocery bag or multiple grocery bags if your items don’t fit in one. We don’t want anyone getting sick, so please dress appropriately for the weather. Think layers! We’ve found in the past that the boys are too cold or they come bundled, start working and become overheated. Okay, so some of the adults have done it too. :-) Think Layers! Have fun! Thank you in advance for your time and commitment to our boys and those in need during this holiday season.
Just a reminder that the Scouting for Food bag distribution is Saturday, November 14th. We will be meeting at St. James at 9am. Make sure your Scout is wearing their shirt as this is an official scouting service project event. If you bought the shirt a little bigger than your scout it might be able to fit over his jacket.
New to scouts? Scouting for Food is a service project where the scouts and their families distribute bags to the houses in our assigned area.
On the following Saturday, November 21st, scouts and their families go back to their assigned areas to collect the bags of food that have been set out for us to take. Then we sort the food, pack it up, and deliver it to the Warwick Community Chest. Usually the assigned area is shared by a whole den, so a family won’t be by themselves. The Boy Scout Troop 142 and Cub Scout Pack do this service project together. Oh, and yes, you can bring your coffee.
On November 21st, we will need 6 tables, medium size boxes, donations of shipping tape and permanent markers to mark the boxes. We will also need volunteers with trucks to transport the donated food to the food bank. Please contact Heather Duda through email at heatherduda@yahoo.com if you can help with any of the above items needed. Thank you in advance for your generosity and commitment to scouting and to our community!
